March

  • National Long Distance Triathlon Championship and Iberian Cup (March 28th)

    The Portuguese Triathlon Federation, in partnership with the Madeira Regional Triathlon Association and the Porto Santo Municipal Council, will be holding the "II Porto Santo Long Distance Triathlon" on the coming 28 March 2010. This competition forms part of the National Long Distance Triathlon Championship, as well as the 2nd stage of the Iberian Long Distance Triathlon Cup.

  • Madeira Islands Golf Open (April 7th - April 11th)

    The 2010 edition of the Madeira Islands Golf Open, which is part of the main PGA European Tour, will be held at Porto Santo Golfe during the month of April.After being held at the Santo da Serra Golf Club on Madeira Island for many years, this year it will be held once again on the paradisical island of Porto Santo.

  • Flower Festival (April 15th - April 18th)

    The city of Funchal is once again the stage for this sumptuous spectacle that will please both the eyes and nose. The theme for this year's Flower Festival is "Earth", tying in with the celebrations for the International Year of Biodiversity.

  • Festival of the Atlantic (June 5th - June 26th)

    The Festival of the Atlantic is an important event that combines entertainment and culture. It has three components: the Madeira Music Festival, the International Fireworks Competition and performances by philharmonic bands in the city centre.

  • 23rd Tour of Madeira in Classic Car Rally (June 23rd - June 25th)

    The Madeira Classic Car Club this year, and for the 22nd time running, is organising the Tour of Madeira Classic Rally. This event takes place over three days and covers around 400 km through beautiful and often winding Madeiran roads, competing in a way that allows competitors to experience the breathtaking landscapes of this beautiful island.

  • Madeira Wine Rally (August 5th - August 7th)

    The 2010 Madeira Wine Rally, the largest automobile event in the Region will be held from 5th to 7th August. Some of the most outstanding names in the world of intercontinental car racing usually participate in this rally, many times with the intention of testing their newest acquisitions. Thousands of people gather in the mountain sites of Madeira looking for the best areas in order to enjoy the cars in their best performance.   • Monte Festival (August 14th - August 15th)

    Considered the biggest religious festival in the Island, this is a huge celebration of The Senhora do Monte. Taking place around the famous Church of Monte, where families and friends gather around singing, dance, eat and drink all through the night; a Madeiran tradition. Also it’s a great place to encounter many Madeiran immigrants. The next day being a national holiday, a mass is celebrated following a procession in which pilgrims of "Senhora do Monte" participate.

  • Madeira Wine Festival (September 2nd - September 5th)

    Held in September during the grape harvest, this event pays tribute to the most prestigious regional product, which is largely responsible for the Madeira’s international promotion, as well as to cultural roots of its locals, who have been producing this exquisite wine since the early years of the island's settlement. Festivities will take place in Funchal and Câmara de Lobos, specifically in the parish of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos.

  • Columbus Festival (September 16th - September 18th)

    This event is dedicated to Christopher Columbus and is held in Vila Baleira, Porto Santo in September. Columbus Festival recreates the years in which the famous Genoese merchant lived on the island of Porto Santo. The sand beach is filled with a intricate medieval atmosphere, which dazzles tourists and locals alike. The Festival programme features: a medieval fair, the disembarking of Columbus and his welcoming reception by the Governor, an open air banquet, attacks on the island by Moorish pira

  • New Year Celebrations (November 26th - January 6th)

    Christmas traditions are deeply rooted in the Madeirans’ habits and are combined with the New Year celebrations in a varied program of cultural, folk and artistic events, lasting all through December and only ending on Twelfth Night. And the bustle doesn’t die down after Christmas, as the last day of the year has to be one to remember. When the clock strikes twelve on 31 December, Funchal’s skies are lit up with fire, colour and hope for the New Year.
